About Symbol Match

Symbol Match is a cognitive stimulation exercise adapted from the Symbol-Number Matching pack in the worksheet library. A key at the top pairs each symbol with a number. Symbols then appear one at a time, and the job is to tap the number that matches, as quickly and accurately as possible. It is a processing-speed task: the rule is simple, so the result mostly reflects how fast the person can look up, decide, and respond.

Because the screen times every tap, a run gives more than a total. Correct items per minute is the headline speed number. Median response time shows the typical tap. The pace check compares the second half of the run with the first, so slowing under sustained effort is visible rather than hidden in the total. For a working-memory step-up, the key can be hidden after a short study period so each symbol has to be matched from memory.

It is built for occupational therapists, caregivers, and anyone practicing processing speed and sustained attention, and it runs in any browser with no setup. Responses are taps on large numbered buttons, and the number keys work on a keyboard. Symbol Match is a practice and cognitive stimulation tool, not a standardized assessment, and no patient information is collected or stored.
