About Stroop

This tool is a cognitive stimulation exercise adapted from the classic Stroop interference paradigm: a color word appears in mismatched ink, and the job is to answer the ink while suppressing the urge to read the word. Because the screen times every tap, it can show what paper can’t — how much slower the mismatched trials are than the matched ones. That difference, the interference cost, is the working muscle of inhibition, and watching it shrink across sessions is progress you can see in one number. Patch trials give a no-reading baseline, and the counting variant swaps color for quantity entirely, so the exercise works fully for colorblind users.

It’s built for occupational therapists, caregivers, and anyone practicing cognitive control and processing speed, and it runs in any browser with no setup — open it and go. Responses are simple taps on large buttons, one trial at a time, at the person’s own pace. Stroop is a practice and cognitive stimulation tool, not a standardized assessment, and no patient information is collected or stored.
